to FAQs

    FAQs For Veterinarians

  • How do I schedule a mobile ultrasound scan?
Our mobile ultrasound service is available Monday through Friday. Please complete our booking form and a member of our team will contact you to arrange a suitable day and time for the scan. When scheduling, we will need to know the patient name, age and breed, as well as the service requested and the reason for the ultrasound. It it also helpful for us to know the name of the doctor overseeing the case. You Our office staff will ask for the following information when scheduling. Please inform us as soon as possible if your client needs to reschedule or cancel the appointment (see our cancellation policy below).
  • What is your cancellation policy?
    Cancellation policy
  • How do I prepare my clients and patients?
Ultrasound scanning is most effective when the animal is compliant, so sedation for animals is recommended. It is your responsibilty to discuss with the clients beforehand that there may be a need for sedation and to obtain their permission. Sedation needs administering and monitoring by your staff. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) will also require prior permission from the client. Additionally we require a coagulation profile to be performed before FNA. You will relay any findings to the client, as they are not permitted to be present during the scan. Your patient will need to fast for 10-12 hours before the scan, but they are able to drink water. If they are having a bladder scan then ideally they will not urinate for 2 hours beforehand. For abdominal scans the animal will need to be shaved, but not for chest or neck scans. You will need to provide a technician to assist our specialist during the appointment. It would be most helpful if you could provide us with the patient's history and lab test results 24 hours before the scan.
  • What should I expect during the scan?
Upon arrival, our ultrasound specialist will set up their own portable ultrasound machine in a suitable room. Your technician will be required to bring in the patient, support our specialist during the scan, and return the animal to their enclosure afterwards. If the managing veterinarian is not able to be present on the day, then our specialist is happy to speak to them on the phone before and after the scan.
  • When will I receive a report?
You will receive a full written report via email within 24 hours. This will include details of any findings from the scan, as well as a recommended course of action to follow. Ongoing customer support is very important to us, so we offer complementary aftercare advice via telephone or email during the weeks following the scan.
  • Do you perform biopsies and echocardiograms?
We perform fine needle aspirations (FNA) but not Tru-Cut biopsies. During FNA, cells are taken for sampling via a small gauge needle. We can briefly investigate the heart during a thoracic ultrasound scan. We do not perform echocardiograms, which offer a fuller assessment where heart disease is suspected.
